It’s About Good News by February 19, 2015

Good morning!  We’re talking about the Bible - what’s the Bible all about?  We’ve said the Bible’s about God, and the Bible is also about good news.

You know, we all love good news – right?  The Bible word gospel means good news.  The Bible is good news, but before you can appreciate the good news, you have to know the bad news.  The bad news is that while there is a God who created you and loves you, who has a purpose and a plan for you, we have rejected that God.  We have gone our own way.  We have done our own thing.  We have not sought to glorify God, honor him or please him.  In fact, we’ve made us the center of our universe instead of making God the center.  We have gone off the reservation.  We have broken God’s laws.  We are law breakers, and because God is just, he has to punish injustice.  God has to punish what is wrong.

The Bible says we have sinned against this God, and we are incurring the judgment of God; however, here’s the good news, God loves you and sent his own son Jesus.  When Jesus died on the cross, all of your sin was put on the back of Jesus, and Jesus, innocent Jesus, died in the place of guilty you and me.  Because Jesus paid for our sin as our substitute, we are now free to be clean and restored and right with God who loved and created you; that’s good news.   This good news means you can change.  It means there’s hope and it’s good news that you can be right with this God.

So let me ask you something, if you’ve never received Christ, if you’ve never said, Lord Jesus forgive me and come into my life, then this is a great time to do that.  Just say, Lord, I need you in my life.  I need your forgiveness, and if you are a Christian, then thank God for what he’s done in your life!
